Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho on Thursday publicly posed a challenge to President Uhuru Kenyatta as he Commissioned the Mombasa Storm Water Drainage Improvement Project Phase 2 in Bamburi.
Mr Joho boldly told the Head of State to provide proof of projects his administration had initiated in the County.
The ODM Deputy party leader claimed that the Jubilee administration cannot brag of the Bamburi project noting that it was funded by World Bank in 2010.
Joho lamented that the Government had neglected the people of Mombasa adding that since Mr Kenyatta was in the area, he ought to leave the locals in a better state.
“I am grateful that the President is in Mombasa. But I have to say this, I know the history of this project Kenyatta has just commissioned and it is an old one. It started in 2010 together with other projects and it is called Municipal Programme.
“We want to see projects that have been started by Jubilee here in Mombasa. I want to hear it being announced today that Jubilee Government will leave Billions for new projects in my county. This project is an old one and Mombasa wants projects initiated by the Jubilee Government,” Joho continued as Kenyatta looked on.
When it was the President’s turn to speak, he distanced himself from Joho’s demands telling the locals “hiyo ya tumbo ngojea Joho tukimaliza atakuleletea vile alikuagizia“.
He insisted that his Government was focused on ensuring every citizen benefits from important projects other than issuing handouts.
Mr Kenyatta, who is on a working holiday at the Coast, also commissioned the Buxton Footbridge Non-Motorized Transport Project in Mombasa and Ziwa la Ng’ombe Informal Settlement Infrastructural Improvement project
